In February, the Victorian Government launched a review into the state’s Vocational Education and Training (VET) funding system, with a view to creating more stable VET sector.
Headed up by former Holmesglen TAFE director Bruce Mackenzie, the review yesterday launched its interim report, with more than 100 recommendations promising a major shake-up of Victoria’s open training market.
While the report addresses quality and equity of access to training, the review failed to substantively address the structural problem in Victoria’s VET funding model: the contestable funding system, in which private and public TAFEs are competing for subsidised enrolments.
